Nominations open for 2010 Community Achievement Awards!

Many of us in Rotherham have our lives touched by community or voluntary groups and the people who work and volunteer with them – they make a valuable contribution to Rotherham’s residents and communities, more often than not those who are vulnerable and most in need.

Do you know of an individual or group who you have seen or heard about making an impact in this way?   Maybe they’ve helped you or your family or you know them through work or socially?  Just who are Rotherham’s unsung local heroes?  The search is on, through Rotherham’s annual Community Achievement Awards.

We know that many organisations are facing difficult and uncertain financial times and many organisations/ groups have funding that is ending soon. We want to highlight to our partner agencies the impact and effects of any funding that is shortly coming to an end. The funding does not have to be just from statutory agencies (e.g.  From the Council).

   Casting Innovations is a new social enterprise specialising in 

   collecting, recycling & turning waste aluminum into new

   products.

Do you want to improve something in your neighbourhood, make changes happen locally or for your group or influence local decisions?  Is there a burning issue that you want to campaign on but don’t quite know where to begin?  If so, then this course is for you!  In eight half day sessions, we help you to cut through the red tape and:

• identify the decision makers - understand who does what in Rotherham and how different organisations fit together,
• learn more about local decision making structures and how to influence them – you’ll meet keynote speakers from RMBC and other organisations,
• share knowledge, skills and experience of trying to make things happen,
• develop an action plan to achieve your goals and empower your community
