Job Description
To lead on grassroots community engagement through delivering the “Building Bridges” programme and develop trusted relationships with community members and partners.
To directly support efforts to reduce social division, tackle prejudice and misinformation, and foster inclusion, resilience, and understanding across target communities.
To listen to local people, support people to develop power to act together for the common good, and help people act on the local issues that are important to them.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Work in partnership with the team at Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance (REMA) to deliver the operational requirements of the Lottery funded “Building Bridges” community cohesion project.
• Engage and build relationships with individuals, families, and grassroots groups in target communities, including Maltby, Dinnington, Eastwood, and the Town Centre.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers to become “Upstanders”– local champions who promote cohesion and challenge harmful racial narratives.
• Co-ordinate and deliver community workshops, dialogue sessions, and local events that promote shared learning, inclusion, and intercultural understanding.
• Facilitate and support “Walk a Mile in My Shoes”, myth-busting, and cultural awareness sessions.
• Identify emerging issues, tensions, or community concerns and work with colleagues to develop responsive and appropriate interventions.
• Support people with lived experience of discrimination or exclusion to participate in shaping activities and solutions.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in community work
