Job Description

Job summary Position: Trans Support/Community Engagement Worker
Hours: Part time, 4 hour per week flexibly from home/venue space.
Duration: Fixed-term for 18 months
Wage: £14.50 per hour, paid monthly
Location: Home based working as well as attending meetings and workshop delivery at GP and health centre practices, community venues, workplaces and schools.

You will undertake:
• Initial research and connection with members of the Trans community over the telephone, face-to-face and via email interaction to determine their needs/support requirements from LGBT Sheffield.
• Develop relationships with local GP practices to promote the services of LGBT Sheffield, forming social prescribing connections, educating health professionals on how to refer and manage Trans community members in need of support and assistance.
• Develop relationships with other non-profit and third sector organisations representing the voice of the 18+ Trans community to determine services available and support needed
• Assisting members of the Trans community with Hate Crime reporting and the delivery of Hate Crime Awareness Workshops in community settings such as schools, colleges and work places in collaboration with South Yorkshire Police.
• Proactively advocate for the LGBTQ+ community of Sheffield.
• Work flexibly from home and in community locations, therefore your own transport will be preferrable and appropriate mileage or public transport expenses will be reimbursed.

Essential Experience
• At least 1 year of research and database building experience.
• A minimum of 2 years advice and guidance experience, dealing with community members on a face-to-face, email, telephone and video call basis.
• Work experience within an administrative team environment – you will work very closely with our LGBQ+ Support/Community Engagement Worker.
• Experience of attending public services and third sector meetings to investigate relevant Trans representation required.
• Lived experience of Trans lifestyle and community understanding/connections.
• Experience of Microsoft Office package of software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Desirable Experience
• Experience of working with adult from the Trans community in a supportive capacity.
• Robust research and development skills, a self-starter who will investigate and continue to question where necessary to understand hierarchical structures, processes and procedures.
• You will be able to relate to vulnerable people in an empathetic and non-judgemental way.
• Able to work with the LGBQ+ Support/Community Engagement Worker, Trustees and Volunteers in an open and transparent way.
• Able to write effectively when communicating via email, messenger on Facebook and in correspondence.
