Be Cancer SAFE Project Shortlisted for NAVCA Award

21st March 2019

The Be Cancer SAFE project at Voluntary Action Rotherham was shortlisted in the Health Partners category at the inaugural NAVCA Awards.

The awards, designed to celebrate local infrastructure, were an opportunity for Voluntary Action Rotherham to showcase the success of one of its newest projects.

The Be Cancer SAFE project is one of a number of interventions to support early diagnosis, creating a social movement in cancer prevention, awareness and support. Through campaigns, promotional material and use of social media, local people have signed up and are spreading the word taking health messages to communities, demystify screening and raising awareness of signs and symptoms.

Voluntary Action Rotherham, who coordinates the programme on behalf of the South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North Derbyshire Cancer Alliance, delivers the Be Cancer SAFE activity in Rotherham and Barnsley, who in their first 10 months have created over 4,500 Cancer Champions and visited over 554 groups and events.

The winners were announced at an awards ceremony during the evening of 19 March 2019, at St Bride’s in London and although we weren’t lucky on the night, it was still a great opportunity to raise awareness of the project and help celebrate their first year.
