Changes to Council Cabinet
The Council Leader, Cllr Chris Read, has made a number of changes to his Cabinet which has seen the creation of a new post focussing on the environment.
New Cabinet member Cllr Sarah Allen, who was elected to represent Wingfield ward in 2016, will take up the portfolio of “Cleaner, greener communities” while Cllr Taiba Yasseen has now left the Cabinet.
Cllr Allen will be responsible street cleansing and other Streetpride services, as well as libraries, leisure services, and parks.
At the same time the way that councillors engage in neighbourhoods will now come under Deputy Leader Cllr Gordon Watson’s portfolio, alongside Children’s Services.
Cllr Read said: “I am pleased to be able to ask Cllr Allen to take on responsibility for an area of the council’s work that we know is very important to the community.
“I would like to thank Cllr Yasseen for her commitment and dedication, leading our work to introduce the new arrangements to support councillors in their community activity, as well as actively championing culture and leisure activities. As Deputy Leader, Cllr Watson is ideally placed to continue the important work of changing how we engage with our communities.”
