Private Fostering Week 9-13 July 2018
Private fostering occurs when a parent makes arrangements for their child to be cared for by someone other than themselves for more than 28 days. This may be with extended family (not a blood relative or someone connected through marriage) or a family friend. A child is considered to be anyone under the age of 16, or a disabled young person under 18.
Many volunteers and professionals who work with or who come into contact with children may come across private fostering situations. Whether in education, health, housing and social care fields, there is a shared responsibility to ensure that all privately fostered children are well cared for and are safeguarded from harm.
If you become aware of a private fostering arrangement you are legally obliged to inform the Rotherham Borough Council Fostering Team on 01709 823976 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
