Serious Violence Duty Survey - Violence Reduction Unit

The Serious Violence Duty came into effect in January 2023, and requires all partners listed in the duty, including the police, health, education, fire, prisons and more, to work together to reduce serious violence in their area. The VRU is co-ordinating the efforts to meet the Duty.

As part of the development of a Serious Violence Strategy, we are taking multiple routes to consult both stakeholders and the people of South Yorkshire on what they think should be in the strategy. We want to know how safe residents of South Yorkshire feel from violence, and what they think could be done to reduce violence.

The VRU has partnered with Sheffield Hallam University to produce a short survey to capture people’s views on violence. The paper based survey is primarily aimed at 16 to 25 year olds, though anyone over 16 can complete the survey.

We would welcome your help in making sure this survey is presented to its target audience, if you are aware of any opportunities to engage with young people (16 and above) please contact Rachel Fletcher on: rachel.fletcher@rotherham.gov.uk
