State of the Coalfields 2019 report launched

Coalfields Regeneration Trust have released research findings dedicated to the 5.7m people living in former mining areas.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust commissioned the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research at Sheffield Hallam University  to determine the level of deprivation within the coalfield communities throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

The research finds areas remained “scarred by the legacy of the past” with issues including high unemployment, low levels of skills and poor health and reports indices that are well below national averages.
