Working Together in Research Workshop - 19th June 2024
16th May 2024

Working Together in Research workshop: developing a research strategy for the voluntary and community sector in South Yorkshire:

Location: Zest Centre, 18 Upperthorpe, Sheffield S6 3NA

Date: June 19th, 10am – 12.30pm. Refreshments and lunch (served from 12.30pm) included

South Yorkshire is home to 1.4 million people and nearly 7000 VCSE organisations: that is nearly 1 VCSE organisation every 200 inhabitants. The contribution of these organisations to our communities and our society is vast and multi-faceted and it includes advancements of research and interventions to help people live longer and healthier lives.

Last October NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) VCSE Alliance, research partners and VCSE leads Diversecity and South Yorkshire Community Foundation started a programme called Working Together in Research. The focus was on how we can build sustained partnerships between voluntary and community groups and research institutions to ensure that health and care research in our region is centred around equity and inclusion.

For seven months the ICB have hosted workshops and funded other activities: through the recommendations and insights generated,  the VCSE Alliance, research partners and VCSE leads Diversecity and South Yorkshire Community Foundation have begun to imagine a framework of Guiding Principles and a Maturity Model to inform the relationships between the VCSE and research sectors in our region – see attached.

Yet, there remain some unanswered questions around the long-term sustainability of this work. What governance model and vision would we need to ensure coherence of work and impact across the nearly 7000 VCSE organisations of South Yorkshire?

The VCSE Alliance, research partners and VCSE leads Diversecity and South Yorkshire Community Foundation would like to answer this and other questions together during a workshop planned for June 19that Zest Centre. VCSE organisations from the region are invited and encouraged to attend*. Please register via this link.

The workshop will be held in the Main Hall at 9.45, start at 10am and aim to close at 12.30pm. There will be cold and hot drinks and light refreshments available in the room and a hot lunch will be available from 12.30pm from the cafe.
