Revamped allotment launched

2nd September 2019

Patients and staff have unveiled a newly revamped allotment in Rotherham – which helps to keep them healthy!

The allotment is at The Woodlands, which is based behind Rotherham Hospital, Moorgate, and is for people aged 65 or over with mental health needs. It is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

The aim of creating the allotment is to provide an area that can help to stimulate patient’s senses and improve their mental health through the calming environment created and having the opportunity to engage in a relaxing activity.

Nicola Gill, Reablement Support Worker, said: “Patients have worked really hard to get the allotment ready, planting vegetables and fruit.  Gardening is great for people’s mental health and the idea of the allotment is that patients can get fitter by working in the patch of garden, as well as growing healthy fruit and vegetables that they, or future patients, can eat.”
