Job Description

We are looking for a peer support worker to provide peer support to dads and dads-to-be who have self-referred or have been referred to Light.

This will involve the delivery of group support and the offer of 1-1 structured support, responsive to the needs of service users.

Our peer support workers use their own lived experience of mental health and/or emotional wellbeing challenges in the perinatal period to support and encourage service users on their own recovery journeys.

This includes the use of appropriate self-disclosure to provide inspiration and hope to people using the service.

The role requires lived experience of being a dad and is therefore open to male applicants only under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 as a genuine occupational requirement to meet the needs of our service users and ensure effective engagement.
Peer Support Delivery

Deliver targeted peer support to dads and dads-to-be through groups, activities and 1:1 sessions (in person, telephone, video call or email).
Plan and facilitate welcoming, safe and inclusive peer support activities.
Work alongside dads to develop support that meets their needs and preferences.
Engage with co-production, feedback and engagement activities to help improve services.
Build positive relationships with fathers, community organisations and professionals to increase access and engagement.
Support the development of peer support programmes for under-represented groups.
Promote hope, recovery and self-belief in all interactions.
Monitor and evaluate activities to ensure quality, outcomes and contractual requirements are met.
Family Hub / Best Start Programme

Support fathers and families to understand infant emotional wellbeing and secure attachment, referring to specialist services where appropriate.
Signpost and support access to Family Hub and other local services.
Develop partnerships with statutory, voluntary, community and faith organisations.
Participate in Family Hub and Best Start partnership meetings.
Awareness Raising and Community Engagement

Promote Light’s services through community events, networking opportunities and outreach activities.
Deliver perinatal mental health awareness sessions and promote support available for dads and male caregivers.
Encourage volunteering opportunities.
Training and Professional Development

Deliver support in line with recognised Perinatal Peer Support Principles.
Participate in training, supervision, reflective practice and continuous professional development activities.
Policies, Procedures and Compliance

Undertake risk assessments and maintain a safe environment for service users, staff and volunteers.
Maintain accurate records and data using the CRM system (Microsoft Dynamics).
Comply with all organisational policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and peer support standards.
Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the level and scope of this post
