On Wednesday 20th May, we were delighted to present Sue Butler from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) with the Rotherham Volunteer Management Award.
The assessment panel were impressed with SYFR’s application for the award and how they demonstrated the management of their volunteer offer across a series of criteria. These include how open and accessible the organisations processes are to volunteers, the management and supervision of the volunteer programme as well as a focus on legal requirements such as health and safety and safeguarding.
What was evident in the application was how welcomed volunteers are to SYFR – volunteers are made to feel part of the team from day one in whichever role they are in. This ensures that volunteers make the most of their time with SYFR, enhancing skills and having new experiences in a supportive environment.
The award, developed in 2014 is supported and funded by Rotherham Together Partnership and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. It recognises good practice in volunteer management processes.
Organisations can submit evidence against 9 criteria and each submission is assessed by a panel. If successful, organisations receive a certificate and the award lasts for 6 years.
