Job Description

Sheffield Advocacy Hub provides all statutory advocacy in Sheffield as well as some non-statutory work. Advocacy enables people to get their voices heard, rights upheld and make their own informed decisions. Our advocates champion for people to be independent and live the lives they want to live as much as possible, particularly related to health and social care issues.
Our advocates provide independent advocacy, working to the requirements of the Advocacy Charter, the Care Act, the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act and their relevant Codes of Practice, associated guidance and case law.
This is a challenging but rewarding role requiring a high degree of professionalism, and working to strict and demanding targets.
Significant prior experience of working with people with acute mental health problems, learning disabilities, brain injury, serious physical illness or people who may lack the capacity to take specific decisions is essential. Ideally applicants would have a level 3 or 4 qualification in independent advocacy or a relevant professional qualification (e.g. social work).
For the purposes of this position the successful candidate will
● have BSL as a first language or
● hold a minimum of a level 3 BSL Qualification or
● demonstrate a fluency of BSL to a standard of Level 3 and
● have either lived experience of being a d/Deaf adult, or be a child of a d/Deaf adult (CODA)

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn a range of advocacy types, including generic advocacy for d/Deaf adults.
We can offer you a supportive culture within a charity setting committed to social justice. We offer an attractive remuneration package with good terms and conditions of employment including: 35 hour working week; Pension scheme; Health Plan with integrated employee assistance programme.
