Job Description
Purpose of role
The project worker role is designed for someone who has the passion for working with vulnerable and complex young people in the homeless sector.
The post requires you to work as part of a team to provide 24-hour support on a rota basis within an accommodation-based service which houses young people aged 16-21 years.
The project worker will support and manage a caseload of 5 young people through support planning and assessment to build relationships, identify goals and aspirations.
These goals will form the framework for one-to-one key work sessions, and will contribute to the planning of a programme of life skills sessions which will be deliver by the team to young people in service.
The aim of the service is to engage young people in their own support to develop independent living skills for a sustainable future.
Key Accountabilities
- Have the ability to write support plans to meet the needs and aspirations of young people
through goal setting
- The role includes using a strength-based approach to provide structured one to one key
work sessions and group work to young people who are living within the service.
- The Project Worker will engage young people in their own support to develop skills which
will enable them to resettle into the wider community and sustain settled accommodation.
- Roundabout needs a team player who is motivated and committed to supporting young
people to attend appointments, have an ability to advocate for them and to listen to their
ideas and suggestions to develop and improve our service.
- Support young people to claim appropriate benefits and maintain regular pay rent and
service charges
- Work as part of a team on a rota basis including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays
- Clear communication skills which include an ability to self-reflect and take ownership
- An ability to manage group dynamics effectively while taking appropriate action in a timely
manner
- Work with internal and external agencies to support young people to reach their goals and
aspirations
- Work with team members to deliver a wide range activities and life skills which may
include cooking sessions, supervised cleaning, budgeting, maintaining your
accommodation, sexual health, baking, arts and crafts and other current issues YP face
Other Duties:
- Turn around void bedspaces in a timely manner which includes cleaning and preparing
the rooms for the next occupant.
- Assist with managing stock, ordering items and competing inventories with young people
on entry and exit to the service
- Complete health and safety checks, alongside damage checks and report repairs as
necessary
- Take responsibility and ownership for maintaining a clean and safe environment both
internally and externally.
- Provide out of hours advice for Roundabout services
Person Specification
Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- 2 years minimum experience of working within a residential setting with vulnerable young
people or similar client group
- Experience of working as part of a team to deliver a 24-hour provision which houses and
supports vulnerable homeless young people or similar setting
- Safeguarding knowledge and experience of reporting any concerns
- Experience of building meaningful relationships by demonstrating an understanding of
using a strength-based approach to support young people or vulnerable group
- Experience of multi-agency working with a range of key agencies, to identify and signpost
to specialist agencies where appropriate
- Have experience in decision making and can demonstrate resilience
- Have clear and positive communication skills to a wide range of audiences
