Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job
To deliver high-quality ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Digital Skills (IT) classes to adults from diverse communities. The post holder will support learners to improve their English language, digital confidence and employability while creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging ESOL lessons.
• Deliver Basic Digital Skills (IT) sessions.
• Assess learners and identify learning needs.
• Develop lesson plans and learning resources.
• Maintain attendance, assessment and achievement records.
• Support learners to improve English and digital skills.
• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Maintain confidentiality in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
• Follow UMCC safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies.
• Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
• Recognised ESOL teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
• GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
• Good ICT skills.

Desirable Qualifications
• AET, CET or DET qualification.
• Relevant Digital Skills qualification.

Essential Experience
• Teaching ESOL to adults.
• Delivering Digital Skills/Basic IT.
• Planning learner-centered lessons.
• Working with diverse communities.

Knowledge & Skills
• Knowledge of ESOL teaching methods.
• Understanding of safeguarding, equality and (GDPR).
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to motivate learners.
• Competent in Microsoft Office.

Personal Qualities
• Friendly and approachable.
• Patient and supportive.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Professional and flexible.


Special Requirements
• Enhanced DBS check.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Commitment to safeguarding.
• Willingness to undertake mandatory training.
