Job Purpose:

The Welfare Officer is a new appointment to the MCVC Exec Team and will *support the Development Manager in the provision of a highly effective welfare support service to ex-service personnel, veterans, their families and their immediate support networks.

The key activities of the Welfare Officer will be to provide *practical and emotional support; Facilitate access to support services; Manage immediate welfare needs of veterans; Maintain support records and to ensure confidentiality.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Efficient and effective management of all aspects of veterans’ welfare within the MCVC community.
2. Conduct professional assessments of individual veterans’ needs.
2. Ensure accurate records and reports are developed and maintained.
3. Advise and develop welfare support systems.
4. Develop formal welfare policies and procedures.
5. Support the wider team on welfare issues to contribute to a positive and supportive environment within the veterans’ community.

Specific responsibility for MCVC Veterans’ Welfare Officer

• Primary responsibility for all relevant aspects of Veterans’, their families and their immediate support networks welfare.
• Compile and analyse welfare information to prepare reports to the Development Manager, Head of Exec and Trustees, reflecting trends in veterans’ well-being, suggesting any preventative measures.
• Assist the MCVC Development Manager to prepare information, data and reports to assist external providers in their support of veterans.
• Assist in preparing quarterly and annual reports for Board and External Authorities, to reflect the state of veterans’ well-being.
• Monitor all welfare cases to ensure appropriate support and treatment is provided to veterans.
• Ensuring all medical compliance regulations are met.
• Checking in with veterans on a regular basis to ensure their well-being is maintained.
• Providing emotional support: As Welfare officer you will offer practical and emotional support to individuals facing personal, domestic, or service-related challenges, helping individuals to understand their issues and suggesting solutions or other forms of support.
• Facilitating access to services: The Welfare Officer will signpost individuals to appropriate support services, ensuring veterans receive the necessary assistance.
• Managing immediate welfare needs: As Welfare officer you will manage the immediate welfare needs of individual veterans, such as facilitating contact with family and support from external agencies.
• Maintaining records: The Welfare Officer will maintain welfare contact logs to keep track of all interactions with individuals and ensure proper documentation of their support.
• Ensuring confidentiality: As Welfare officer you will operate in a confidential manner, only sharing information with the Development Manager, Head of Exec or approved external support organisation.
• To act as a point of contact for issues relating to the well-being of all veterans, aiming to foster positive experiences and relationships. Must have own transport and ability to travel as part of the role.

Governance
To assist the Development Manager with governance responsibilities particularly relating to welfare activities.

General
Promote and undertake all work activities in line with MCVC’s values. • Attend and contribute to team and organisational meetings as required. • Comply with MCVC’s policies and practices, following procedures as required.
