Wellbeing Walk Leader Training

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks Rotherham (RWWR) is a community project run by The Ramblers supported in Rotherham by Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR). It helps local groups run friendly, accessible walks that encourage people to stay active, improve wellbeing, and connect with others.

We are very excited to be able to offer this free training and support opportunity to individuals within voluntary sector groups/organisations who wish to train as Wellbeing Walk Leaders, with the overall aim that they can help their groups and organisations set up free, friendly, and accessible walks that encourage people to get active and connect with others in their community.

Training Options

You can complete the Wellbeing Walk Leader training in one of two ways:

  • Online training – flexible, self-paced, and available anytime

After completing training, we can help you or your organisation set up and register your walks, with ongoing support as needed.

The next face-to-face session is on Wednesday 12th November 2025 at The Spectrum Voluntary Action Rotherham. Online at your own pace training is also available. Please contact us for more info.

Training Content Online & Face-to-Face

Both options cover three short modules:

  1. Walk Leader Handbook – the essentials of leading a good walk

  2. Walk Leadership Foundations – planning, managing groups, and practical tips

  3. Preventing and Managing Incidents – safety, risk, and first-aid awareness

Face-to-face sessions also provide the chance to share ideas and experiences with other leaders.

No formal qualifications are required,  just enthusiasm and a desire to help others.
