Food for People in Crisis
The Food for People in Crisis service is being adapted in light of Covid-19 to support social distancing and lockdown measures. We would like to thank all colleagues and organisations who are offering support in aid of people in crisis during the pandemic.
The Food For People In Crisis Partnership consists of a number of organisations in the Borough that help people deal with emergency situations by providing them with food, whether it’s a parcel to take home or a cooked meal and they also provide other types of support. There are assessment and referral processes to ensure that people who need support are able to access it all year round. The Food in Crisis Partnership is made up of the following local organisations:
- British Red Cross
- Liberty Church
- Maltby Centre, Full Life Church, Maltby
- Rotherham Foodbank
- Salvation Army Dinnington
- Salvation Army Kimberworth
- St Mary’s Foodbank
- Sunday Night Café, Lighthouse Homes
- Wath Community Foodbank at Montgomery Hall, Wath-Upon-Dearne
The partnership also includes nine organisations that provide generic and specialist support to targeted and/or vulnerable communities. Partnership members meet regularly to share best practice/resources/expertise/problem solve and explore ways to obtain more resources (e.g. funding). As a result the partnership is working more strategically and consequently co-ordinating and strengthening provision to local individuals and families in need.
Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) offer administrative support to the above providers. VAR DOES NOT have the ability to provide food parcels, nor can we assess for, or refer individuals to emergency food providers. If you are a person in need of emergency food support click here to be directed to the Citizens Advice Bureau website for information on using a foodbank. Alternatively, if you are in a crisis and require immediate help, please telephone RMBC’s emergency hub on 01709 807319 or complete an emergency support form here.
Voluntary Action Rotherham has set up a dedicated ‘People in Need’ bank account to receive donations. All of the funds raised are granted via small grants which are awarded by an independent panel to improve Food in Crisis organisations’ services to people in need. Throughout the year you can make a donation to the Food in Crisis partnership either by cheque or bank transfer: Cheques should be made payable to ‘People in Need (VAR)’ and sent to Voluntary Action Rotherham, The Spectrum, Coke Hill, Rotherham S60 2HX.
Voluntary Action Rotherham is able to collect gift aid from UK taxpayers. VAR will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that is given to ‘People in Need’. If you want to provide gift aid on your donation please complete the form here and return to People in Need, Voluntary Action Rotherham Ltd, The Spectrum, Coke Hill, Rotherham S60 1HX.
